Former clients approached me before purchasing a stunning site on the edge of a cliff in a bay on England’s south coast, flanked by the White Cliffs of Dover either side.

The existing house, a 1960’s kit house, was demolished and replaced with a new 2,000 sq.ft house on 3 levels. Their desire was for an informal beach home that maximised the views and connections across the narrow shelf on a site, with a few nods towards it’s maritime location.

 The family living centres around the south facing living/kitchen/dining with the terrace cantilevered over the edge of the cliff to increase the drama.

The building form was designed to provide adequate summer shading while allowing lower winter sunshine to penetrate the house.
